PREVENTIVE CARE
The most prominent cause of tooth loss in adults is periodontal (gum and bone) disease, and 60-80% of adults have this condition. In addition, there is a direct correlation between your oral health and your overall health. Research shows that chronic infections such as dental infections may more than double the risk of stroke. Studies have also shown an increased risk of heart disease in people with periodontal disease.
We stress the importance of daily home care and regular preventive continuing care visits. This routine care will help prevent unnecessary problems and pain. Remember – your best dental insurance is your regular dental checkup.

COSMETIC DENTISTRY - Options to improve your smile
Composite (tooth-colored) Fillings - Composite is a tooth-colored resin polymer that is bonded to the tooth’s surface. Composite fillings can be used to restore teeth that are chipped, broken, cracked, stained, or have spaces between them. We offer composite fillings as an alternative to amalgam (silver mercury). As a general practice, we do not use amalgam in our office.
Inlays/Onlays – Inlays and Onlays are used to restore teeth that have been damaged by decay or wear. Inlays and Onlays are lab-fabricated porcelain or gold fillings that are made to fit in the area of the tooth which the dentist has prepared. They are often used when the amount of lost tooth structure is more than what a regular filling can replace but less than what you would need a crown to repair. An inlay fits within the contours of a tooth. An onlay covers the biting surface and one or more cusps (peaks) of the tooth.
Veneers - A veneer is a thin ceramic covering that is placed over the front (visible) part of the tooth. Veneers are fabricated by a dental laboratory and are applied in a simple, comfortable procedure that takes just few visits. Veneers are generally placed on upper front teeth that are discolored, poorly shaped, chipped, worn or slightly crooked, or to correct uneven spaces or diastema (a large, noticeable gap between the upper front teeth). Veneers may also be used to lighten front teeth that are naturally yellow or have a gray cast and can’t be whitened by bleaching.
Whitening --Tooth whitening – also called bleaching – is a procedure that brightens teeth that are discolored, stained, or have been darkened because of injury. Bleaching may be done completely in the dental office (known as chairside bleaching) or we may dispense a system for you to use at home.

CHILDREN'S DENTISTRY
We look forward to treating children! Good attitudes toward dental health and a good preventive program start for children by the time the first teeth erupt. Needless pain from toothaches and premature loss of baby teeth can be prevented by establishing positive attitudes and good habits early. Children should be seen when their first teeth erupt.

PERIODONTAL/GUM DISEASE THERAPY
Periodontal or gum disease is an infection of the tissues that support the teeth. Left untreated, periodontal disease can be a major cause of tooth loss.
Risk factors for periodontal disease:
- Smoking or chewing tobacco
- Some systemic diseases, such as diabetes, can lower your body’s resistance to infection
- Some medications can increase the risk and incidents of periodontal disease. Always let us know of any medications you are taking
- Bridges that no longer fit properly, crooked teeth, or fillings that have become defective
- Pregnancy or use of oral contraceptives
Signs of Periodontal Disease:
- Gums that bleed easily
- Red, swollen, or tender gums
- Gums that have pulled away from the teeth
- Pus between the teeth when the gums are pressed
- Persistent bad breath or bad taste
- Permanent teeth that are loose or separating
- Any change in the way your teeth fit together when you bite
- Any change in the fit of partial dentures
At your comprehensive examination and in periodic continuing care exams, we evaluate the health of your gums. If periodontal disease is detected, we will recommend the best treatment to restore your gums to health.

FULL AND PARTIAL DENTURES
Replacing missing teeth has substantial benefits for your health and your appearance. A complete denture, also called a full denture, replaces all the natural teeth and provides support for cheeks and lips. Without this support, sagging facial muscles can make a person appear older. In addition to replacing missing teeth, dentures improve a person’s ability to speak and to eat. A removable partial denture fills in the space created by missing teeth and fills out your smile.

DIGITAL X-RAYS
In keeping with our desire to utilize new advances in the field of dentistry to benefit our patients, we now offer digital x-rays. Digital x-rays use a lower level of radiation than traditional x-rays. Instead of film, digital images are made using a small electronic sensor that is placed in the patient's mouth to capture the x-ray image. The image is then transmitted to a computer where it can immediately be viewed by the doctor. In many cases, the x-ray is displayed on a flat-screen monitor for the patient to see as well.

ORAL CANCER SCREENING
Each year approximately 31,000 people will be diagnosed with oral cancer. Oral cancer claims the lives of approximately 10,000 people each year. Early detection is of vital importance! Cancer can affect any part of the oral cavity, including the lip or tongue.
Following are some signs of possible oral cancer:
- A persistent sore or irritation that does not heal
- Color changes such as the development of red and/or white lesions
- Pain, tenderness or numbness anywhere in the mouth or lips
- A lump, thickening, rough spot, crust or small eroded area
- Difficulty in chewing, swallowing, speaking or moving the jaw or tongue
- Change in bite
At each comprehensive or continuing care exam, we screen for oral cancer and precancerous changes in the oral tissues. You can reduce your chances of oral cancer by practicing good oral hygiene, eliminating risk factors such as tobacco and alcohol, and having regular dental examinations.

LASER CAVITY DETECTION
We use the DIAGNOdent, a small laser instrument which scans your teeth with harmless laser light searching for hidden decay. Because of this new technology, we can locate hidden decay, and with treatment, stop the spread of disease before it destroys the tooth from within. The DIAGNOdent is completely safe and pain free, and we are delighted to have it as a tool for cavity detection.

ROOT CANAL THERAPY
Root canal treatment usually involves the removal of the tooth’s pulp, a small, thread-like tissue that was important for tooth development. Once removed, it is replaced with materials that seal off the root canal from bone supporting the tooth’s root. Today, root canal (endodontic) treatment enables us to save many teeth that otherwise would be lost.

NIGHTGUARDS
Bruxism is a habit of grinding or clenching one’s teeth. Many people are unaware that they are grinding their teeth because it often happens while they sleep. They may wake up with a headache, toothache, earache or a sore face. Grinding can wear away or fracture tooth enamel and may eventually loosen teeth. A Nightguard is an appliance which is worn at night and prevents contact between the upper and lower teeth while you sleep. In addition to protecting your teeth and restorations, the appliance can relieve some of the pressure of grinding and clenching, which can damage jaw joints.

INTRA-ORAL CAMERA
The intra-oral camera allows patients to look at their teeth and oral cavity as they never have before! They can see areas of concern at close range and with high magnification. The intra-oral camera is an excellent tool for educating patients about their oral health.
